@gregkinney i use a similar adapter and the bonus is the rj45 to get the FireTV off the wireless. Are you using a 4k version? I got IR to work with my older FireTV but not all the IR codes work on the 4k

@Aaron_817 same question… are you using a 4k? I could have sworn I tried the Xbox codes but couldn’t get it working. Edit: correction… I couldn’t get ALL the buttons to work. Only the directionals and center button. Not home, back, menu.

Yes it’s a 4k. I use ADB for those buttons, as well as shortcuts to directly load apps. There’s many ways to use ADB, I do it via Home Assistant.

Yes, mine was a 4k Firestick as well with the network adapter (can use it off the Y-cable). If I remember correctly, yes, I got all the other buttons to work (may have been one I didnt get working but i think it was at least almost all). I’ll try to take a look at my previous code and post the ir info later today. Some of them were odd and not what you would guess. I recently replaced my firestick with a Roku ultra which had its own set of challenges.

well thanks a lot… you mentioned Home Assistant and I happen to have a spare Pi laying around so, I guess its time I’m going down that rabbit hole.

I may try for a setup like you. The GC IR is very fast so I’ll keep that for navigation but it looks like that opens up a world of new possibilities like a qwerty keyboard.

I’ve never quite wrapped my mind around HA. It was the easiest way I could find iAqualink control for my pool which is why I have it but it has come in handy in a pinch for random things like ADB. Shout back if you need anything, I’m happy to share what I have.

So, those codes don’t work for me. I have the FLIRC like what Greg posted (but I have an early version from a couple years ago) and I believe its related to that. The code set I’m using is for Microsoft MCE. I did a quick search on the FLIRC forum and it appears I may need a newer device or it may be possible to update the firmware of my existing device. There are folks reporting all the buttons work for them.

Maybe the Xbox code set is used if you were using the Inteset IR receiver. Free returns w/Prime so might be worth a shot!

I almost never use HR to control FTV since I prefer to use the actual remote so, I’ll come back to this but for now, I’m digging into HA.

Sorry for hijacking your thread @Domodial… I didn’t want you to rush into buying an IR receiver because I experienced issues but, like I mentioned, it may be because I have an older FLIRC.

No problem Having said that, I have a question about Harmony Hub. For the moment I manage to launch an activity from HR with PowerToggle. But when I want to stop this activity to turn everything off, it doesn’t seem to work, in fact this Hub has a particular way of working and it starts to piss me off. I tried to shut down with PowerOff but I think it only worked once I don’t know in what condition. How do you do ?

I just got an Android TV and am working on a remote control for it. How is the delay time in sending ADB commands via Home Assistant? I’m trying to figure out if I should go that direction or something IR based. I see there is plenty out there on python and ADB commands.

It’s probably 750ms delay. I used IR for most commands and ADB for things like starting Netflix

Hm ok - that’s pretty significant for functions like volume. Not a problem for starting apps.

I see there are a couple of options posted here, FLIRC and IRUSB. I assume they accomplish the same thing although the IRUSB looks like it uses a seperate app to handle the incoming ir… does this mean it is simply using the ADB functions that are online? There is a video showing only a tiny delay with the IRUSB but I see Greg gave up because of the delay. Also is there now codes for the home and back etc? The latest IRUSB looks different now so I wondered if theyd added the codes for the missing buttons?

For those still interested in this is I’m using the ireusb option and y cable for Ethernet and I have managed to find all the remote codes (including home, context and back). So the remote works properly with IR and no need for adb.

Hi All,

After reading this it sounds like people are using the IR receive functionality on the IRUSB to control their FireTVs. I presume somebody else has also figured this out, but I am actually using the IRUSB and controlling the my FireTV over IP with no delay because it doesn’t go through ADB either. I have also been able to implement long press functionality using this method as well as a full QWERTY keyboard on my homeremote project to control the FireTV. I really can’t hardly tell any difference in performance vs the FireTV remote. If anybody wants to see the plugin that I wrote to do this, let me know and I can share.
